Of course, they aren’t going to include the super-expensive, limited release offerings – but they did include decently priced beans, all with different flavor profiles and various origins/processing methods. Onyx provided a great variety to try for their roaster sample box. (This Ethiopian beat out the most recent Ethiopian I purchased from Brandywine too, which was still very good, by the way!) I hate to compare roasters like this, because taste is very subjective, but that particular offering was a major fruit bomb, and my favorite Ethiopian coffee I’ve tried for the month of November. My favorite out of the four? Hands down – the Ethiopia Bensa Natural! It tasted like star-fruit – I’ve never had a coffee like that.

I did also have some concerns on the roasting dates, which were not provided on the packaging, order email, or sample bags however, upon checking the website, each bag is provided a batch number ( Immediately, the engineer in me geeked out over this! Lot Traceability! Batch processing! Lean Six Sigma!), and through the website, you can input your five digit batch code to truly track your coffee throughout the whole process – Amazing!

I don’t mind spending a bit more to try a variety vs. For this sampler box, it was $1.87 per ounce, and for Brandywine’s, $2.50 per ounce. Usually when buying quality single-origin coffee, it’s around ~$20 per 12 ounces – which comes out to $1.66 per ounce. And if you know me well enough, you know that I love a good deal! For four 4 oz samples, this makes it a better deal than Brandywine’s sample box (only offering three 4 oz samples). At the time, any $30 purchase would result in free shipping! ( I believe it’s now $40 spend to get free shipping) Lucky for me, the Roaster Sample Box was $30 exactly (no shipping fees, no tax fees). The great thing about this roaster (in comparison to the aforementioned) is their shipping deal.
Roaster Sample Box by Onyx Coffee Lab Review After stalking their website for a good couple of days ( they had a few single-origin offerings that really intrigued me), I made my purchase and patiently waited. I’ve heard many great things about this particular roaster ( my local coffee shop serves and carries these highly-acclaimed beans!).
